Break On Through

"I wanted better for her than I could do at 16."

Season 2 episode 15. The nurses have gone on strike and George refuses to cross the picket line. Bailey goes on maternity leave and the interns are assigned to a new resident, Dr. Sydney Heron, who's motto is to 'heal with love'. Meredith saves a woman who cannot breathe and later finds out that, because of the lack of nurses, her chart says she is actually DNR. Alex and Cristina are assigned to a newlywed woman who is found to have necrotising fasciitis. Sydney appreciates Alex's (newly found) compassion for the patient and Cristina goes to Burke to complain. When Burke confronts Dr. Heron (in her OR btw) he realizes that there has to be some separation in his relationship with Cristina at work and outside the hospital.

As Meredith continues to treat Grace, she begins to see parallels between her patient and her mother. Grace's friends reveal that she wanted to die so that she could see her husband, Lenny, in Heaven. Izzie treats a young pregnant girl from the same trailer park that she grew up in. Life is hard for her and her mom and Izzie promises to take care of Cheyenne so her mother can go to work. Izzie later reveals that when she was 16, she also had a baby; a daughter that she named Sara. She tells Cheyenne that keeping her baby isn't her only option and that she knew giving her daughter up was the right thing because she wanted more for her than she could give her at 16. George is coerced into checking on the striking nurses' patients and Alex ends up helping Dr. Heron save the necrotising fasciitis case. Meredith ends up having to take Grace off of life support and it is a very emotional scene.

This is a very emotional episode for Izzie and for Meredith. At the end of the episode we see George laying in bed, Meredith and Izzie joining, and Izzie says, "We don't know everything about each other."

Quotes:

"George is cowering behind the picket line like a little girl." -Izzie
"Standing up for what he believes in, that's my kind of little girl, am I right?" -Sydney Heron

"She can have more than a trailer park and a graveyard shift at a truck-stop diner. Don't you want that for her? I mean, if you can get past the fact that I'm superior, and that I'm judging you, and telling you what's best for your family...if you can just get past all of that, isn't it possible that I'm also right?" -Izzie

"Change your own bedpans, Stevens!" -Nurse Olivia
"Yeah, enjoy your syphilis Olivia!" -Izzie

"Can I name her?" -Cheyenne Woods
"You can name her for you." -Izzie

"We can't help ourselves, we see a line we want to cross it. Maybe it's the thrill of trading the familiar for the unfamiliar, a sort of personal dare, only problem is, once you have crossed it's almost impossible to go back. But if you do manage to make it back across that line, you find safety in numbers." -Meredith

10 more days and 11 more episodes to go!!! Season 7, hurry up!!!
