A Hard Day's Night

"The only one that can keep a promise like that is God, and I haven't seen him holding a scalpel lately."

Here we go! Season 1 Episode 1. I feel like this is the perfect way to start; with the beginning! This episode, like this post, is entitled A Hard Day's Night. We are introduced to Meredith Grey and the 4 other surgical interns Cristina Yang, George O'Malley, Isobel Stevens and Alex Karev. We see Meredith leaving her house after getting rid of her handsome one night stand Derek Shepherd(hello, Patrick Dempsey!) on her way to her first day of work at Seattle Grace Hospital. The interns (all but Alex that is) meet as when they get assigned to Dr. Bailey. 

"I have five rules. Memorize them. Rule number one, don't bother sucking up. I already hate you, that's not going to change."

"007. They're calling me 007,
aren't they?"

Izzie spends her day giving rectal exams, George is picked to perform the first surgery of his class and Meredith is assigned to Katie Bryce, a rhythmic gymnast, who keeps seizing. After something cardio-thoracic is ruled out, Katie is passed on to the new neuro-guy, and Meredith's one-night-stand Dr. Shepherd. Talk about awkward. When Shepherd hits a wall in diagnosing Katie, he asks the interns for their help. Cristina and Meredith team up to find a diagnosis and Meredith reveals her night with Shepherd, whom Cristina dubs McDreamy. George freezes during his appendectomy and Alex dubs him 007. When Cristina and Meredith finally find a diagnosis, Meredith tells Cristina that she can have the surgery but then decides to do it herself after Shepherd offers it to her.

Meredith is thrilled with the rush that comes with surgery and in the end, there are no hard feelings between herself and Cristina. The episode ends with the end of the interns' first shift at the hospital and they've all made it through.
