We're at the one week mark people! So, here we go... Season 5 Episode 17. We have just found out that Izzie has metastatic melanoma and that she has told Cristina. We open on Cristina and Izzie reading about treatment options at Meredith's and Izzie makes sure that no one else finds out. Cristina and Owen are off again and Derek is still out in the woods. Cristina sets Izzie up with an appointment with the best surgical oncologist at Seattle Grace. Dr. Sloan is performing a face transplant, "the biggest surgery in the world" as Meredith puts it.

She and George are assigned to cover pre-and-post-ops, Cristina goes solo (woo!), Izzie and Lexie are assigned to the face transplant, and Alex offers Cristina his help (since he's already gone solo and everything). Bailey sends Callie out to the woods to try and convince Derek to come back. Then, when Callie doesn't come back, Bailey bullies Owen into going out to the woods as well. Both try to convince Derek to come back and both end up drinking the day away with him. Cristina isn't able to focus on her work because she is so worried about Izzie. Then Izzie blows off her appointment and Cristina doesn't know what to do. 

When Meredith and George see that there is some kind of personal problem going on among the interns (Megan, Steve and Pierce that is) they decide that the best way to handle it is to just ignore it. When Bailey realizes that this is going on, she scolds Meredith and George who then scolds the interns. Megan turns out to be pregnant with someone's baby (Pierce or Steve??). Izzie is having doubts about her treatment options after she hears her colleagues calling the face transplant patient blowhole. She is an emotional wreck, just like the patient is when his friends (whom he has never met in person) come before his face is fixed. He kicks them out and isn't able to have hsi surgery until Lexie convinced him that they didn't cringe or look away when they saw him. Richard goes out to the woods and tries to yell some sense into Derek who then confesses that he doesn't know if Meredith will take him back. Cristina is about to operate when she realizes what she has to do. She tells Bailey and Alex about Izzie's diagnosis.

They then tell Meredith and George. Meredith takes Izzie's scans out to the woods to show Derek and leaves him to look at them.

 Everyone gathers in Izzie's room and she tells them the whole story.

Cristina: No, I couldn't do my job. I think you came to me for help, and that's what I did. Because sometimes we win Izzie, and I want you to fight. Ok. You know, for whatever that's worth. I want you to fight.
Izzie: Thank you.

Miranda: Ah, Chief?
Richard: Dr. Bailey.
Miranda: How's your mood?
Richard: Meager. Anxious. I'm excited about Sloan's face transplant. I'm a little concerned aboutDerek Shepherd, but all in all...
Miranda: Do I look like therapist?
Richard: You asked.
Miranda: I've lost Hunt and Torres. See, I sent them to get Shepherd and I never heard from them again. See, I was trying to solve the Shepherd situation for you, Sir, but, It appears I've somehow made it 3 times worse. So, I'm telling you and my next move I believe is that I'm gonna call the police. Because, I'm half convinced they're all dead, on a spit, with a one armed man turning them into shish kebabs. Sir. It's my mind. It just goes there.

George: What the heck do we do with them?

Meredith: Can we shove them in the locker?

Meredith: It's the not knowing that does it. Not knowing if he's ok. Not knowing if he's coming back. Maybe I've just been dumped. I mean, It's not knowing if I'm single that makes me wanna throw up all day long. You are not listening to me are you?
Cristina: Ah, sorry.
Meredith: No,no. That's okay, I get it. You've got the solo surgery and GI Joe. It's a charmed life. You don't have time for me.
Cristina: I have not had GI Joe. We've kissed a couple of times. It's like friends with benefits, without the benefits.
Meredith: Still no sex?
Cristina: Mmm mmm, not a charmed life.

Meredith: What are you doing here? I told you I'm fine.

Cristina: Oh God, you are so not fine.

Like I said, one week to go and I cannot wait!!
